Eco-Friendly Cleaning and Inspection Technology

It was just another day for Darell Koh, helping his father clean the engine parts in their small workshop. While rinsing the components with cleaning solvents made from toxic chemicals, Koh thought to himself: “Why are we still using cleaning agents that are detrimental to both humans and the environment?”

Driven by the urge to introduce eco-friendly cleaning alternatives, Koh applied his engineering knowledge and developed an aqueous spray cleaning system Cyclojet. This novel technology leverages a combination of high pressure spray and biodegradable detergents to clean industrial components. Even better, Cyclojet is a clear departure from the conventional equipment and manual workflows as it utilizes automated modules with robotic arms to clean the parts.

No sooner had Koh created the eco-friendly automated cleaning system than the manufacturers and maintenance, repair, and overhaul service providers (MROs) from diverse industries recognized its potential to make cleaning processes simplified as well as sustainable. To fulfill this demand, Koh established Cyclosystem to commercialize his innovative Cyclojet technology.

The Cyclojet-powered cleaning equipment is now designed and supplied as per the needs of clients. For aerospace and defense MROs, especially, the Cyclojet cleaning solutions are turning out to be a boon. Combining the power of automation and robotics, it is taking over the complex manual cleaning workflow and facilitating more efficient cleaning of industrial components.

“More importantly, our cleaning equipment consumes less cleaning material and water, generates fewer effluents, and can be customized to take the least space on the factory floor,” mentions Darell Koh, founder and managing director of Cyclosystem. The company’s focus on innovation, quality, and responsibility toward customers is only matched by its ability to go into uncharted ground to solve novel problems. These competencies alone place Cyclosystem a step above the rest in the aerospace and defense cleaning and inspection space.

The Epitome of Versatility in High-Quality Industrial Cleaning Today, Cyclosystem functions as a subsidiary of Bulox Corporation a diversified engineering group focusing on the development of innovative infrastructure and maintenance equipment. The company has improved upon its initial portfolio and expanded its cleaning products and services into diverse categories. For instance, the company offers the CycloDip system that can be used to dip bulky parts in relevant solvents to degrease, chemically etch, or strip them of paint in a delicate manner. As soon as the operators place the components on the lifter/agitation platform and close the cover, the system automatically dips the parts in the relevant chemicals or solvents for as long as needed before rinsing and drying. If the clients’ requirements vary, they can further customize CycloDip with circulation pumps, heaters, and additional roller platforms. Even the wastewater produced during the process can be easily treated with the specially-designed CycloTreat waste treatment plants and recycled.

When the components are too complex for Cyclojet’s spray cleaning, clients can also leverage the company’s CycloSonic cleaning systems. These systems utilize cutting-edge ultrasonic cleaning technology and can be used in any industry vertical for cleaning sophisticated parts. In the case of vapor degreasing or gold/nickel stripping, particularly, CycloSonic’s patented high efficiency tubular resonators prove more effective than any conventional slab type transducers.

The company’s CycloBlast solution is also becoming a go-to choice for clients when conducting surface preparation before coating the cleaned components. Unlike most sandblasting systems, the CycloBlast solution has a secure closed chamber within which the relevant parts are blasted with abrasive materials to remove unwanted mill scales and oxide layers that can affect the coating application. Since the entire process is conducted automatically, the system eliminates human exposure to the hazardous blasting environment.

Cyclosystem’s diverse range of cleaning equipment also comes in manual, semi-, and fully-automatic models. The standard options of these models can be directly implemented on the factory floor. However, if the clients have more specific requirements, the Cyclosystem team also offers robust customization services through which they design bespoke versions of the systems, personalized to the client’s unique factory floor and workflow.

Raising the Standards of Industrial Component Inspection

Cyclosystem’s innovative offerings also include some of the best inspection solutions in the market. Especially in the aerospace and defense domain, where every part of aircraft is mission critical and needs to be in perfect condition, MROs require robust inspection methods. While the conventional fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) method is most commonly used, often, the operators have to conduct the different stages of the FPI process manually in hazardous environments. Cyclosystem is fast changing the manual inspection status-quo by facilitating greater speed, efficiency, and safety through its exceptional Auto FPI system. How the Auto FPI system achieves such a feat can be best explained through a case study, where a major aerospace and defense manufacturer sought Cyclosystem’s assistance. Even with an FPI system in place, the manufacturer had to depend on operators to apply the fluorescent materials. In addition, they had to inspect every part closely with hazardous UV light to identify defects in the more complex protrusions and within blind holes. After installing Cyclosystem’s Auto FPI solution, the manufacturer was able to automate the entire process.

All the operator had to do was load the components, and the flexible robotic arms would automatically apply the fluorescent penetrants in a quick and

consistent manner before subjecting it to dark light settings to locate defects—all in a safe and enclosed space. This new system not only streamlined the inspection process and enhanced component consistency but also eliminated the hazardous workflow for operators.

Even today, the aerospace and defense manufacturer depends on Cyclosystem’s automated FPI to complete their critical component inspection tasks within the specified time. This shows the deep rooted focus on efficiency and customer satisfaction that clients can expect from Cyclosystem, especially when it comes to providing safe, efficient, and customized equipment.

These competencies are further augmented by Cyclosystem’s ancillary support services, which include consultancy and contracting, project management, and automation design. In fact, when needed, the company sends its engineering experts to configure the installed equipment and train its automation programming to perform specialized tasks based on the factory floor layout and process timings. As each and every employee at Cyclosystem upholds the company’s principles of quality and commitment, its clients never hesitate to place their trust in the company’s equipment.

Making a Mark in the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing Space

The company’s contributions to the aerospace and military sector have already garnered tremendous recognition. Its many accolades include Singapore Prestigious Brand Award (SPBA), BCA Sustainable Green Mark Award, and European Quality Standard Research (EQSR) International Diamond Prize; not to mention the feature in Channel News Asia (CNA)’s ‘A Class Above.’ The slew of quality and safety certificates is also notable additions to the company’s achievements.

The company’s efforts to take its innovation a notch higher are even backed by its parent organization, Bulox Corporation, whose vast collaboration network provides the company with access to leading-edge technologies to enhance its portfolio. Cyclosystem, together with Bulox Corporation, has developed the Bulox automated remote monitoring (ARM) System, a 24/7 condition monitoring technology that helps clients constantly monitor the performance of all the major equipment supplied by Bulox Corporation and its subsidiaries. The system provides advanced feedback on the performance of the equipment, helping clients prevent or reduce major breakdowns, which are especially disastrous in critical installations. The Bulox ARM system also facilitates a more accurate schedule for maintenances based on actual condition of the equipment instead of periodic time schedules, thus eliminating unnecessary downtime and wastage.

Today, as the world moves toward a sustainable future, Cyclosystem’s environment-focused solutions play a crucial role in enabling manufacturers and maintenance service providers to align with the overarching goal of environmental sustainability while also reaping the benefits of reduced labor costs, greater productivity, and enhanced bottom lines. Not to mention, foresighted organizations will certainly choose to partner with a manufacturer or MRO that leverages safe, eco-friendly, and more efficient methodologies like those offered by Cyclosystem!
