Yandi Melendez has spent his career at the intersection of precision, safety, and leadership in aviation maintenance. With more than 15 years of experience working on some of the industry’s most demanding aircraft, he currently serves as Maintenance Manager at Amerijet International. In this role, he leads day-to-day maintenance operations with a focus on reliability, compliance, and performance. Whether managing complex inspection schedules or mentoring technicians on the ground, Melendez brings a deep technical background and a steady, no-nonsense leadership style that keeps aircraft moving safely and efficiently.
His path to leadership has been shaped by years of hands-on work, technical knowledge, and a steady approach to managing both people and processes. Before taking on his current position in 2024, Melendez served nearly seven years as Aircraft Line Maintenance Manager at Amerijet. In that role, he focused on streamlining shift operations, keeping paperwork and regulatory compliance tight, and improving the day-to-day flow of work across the team. His ability to create structure while still staying flexible to operational demands made a noticeable difference in performance and reliability.
Among his most significant contributions was helping Amerijet secure ETOPS approval—a critical certification that allows aircraft to fly long-distance over water. He also led the induction checks for Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft, ensuring each was brought into the fleet smoothly, safely, and on schedule. These were examples of how Melendez combines methodical planning with follow-through, especially when the stakes are high.
Melendez’s roots in aviation go back to Commercial Jet Inc., where he spent over eight years working his way up from Aircraft Technician to Shift Manager. There, he built a solid foundation working on a wide range of aircraft, including Boeing 707s, 727s, 737s, 757s, and 767s, the MD-80 series, and Airbus A320s. He was involved in everything from heavy maintenance checks to engine inspections and system troubleshooting. His time at Commercial Jet also gave him deep experience with a variety of engine types, including CFM56s, PW2000s, and RB211s—experience that continues to serve him today.
Melendez’s leadership is defined by his mentorship and commitment to continuous improvement. He is known for being hands-on, steady under pressure, and committed to helping his team succeed. Whether it is mentoring junior technicians, making sure every detail is covered before a release, or enforcing safety procedures with consistency, Melendez brings a level of discipline and clarity that keeps things running smoothly. He believes in clear communication, holding people accountable, and creating a culture where quality is the standard.
In 2024, Melendez briefly took on the role of Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor at American Airlines in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though his time there was short, it gave him a broader view of operations at a major airline and sharpened his skills in managing large teams and resolving technical issues efficiently. He soon returned to Amerijet, where his leadership continues to shape the company’s maintenance operations.
Today, Melendez oversees a team of technicians, leads, and supervisors at Amerijet’s Miami base. His job is as much about people as it is about planes, making sure the right work gets done, to the right standards, by the right people. He is deeply familiar with the mechanics, regulations, and realworld demands of airline maintenance, and he brings that experience into every decision he makes.
In a field where safety, timing, and accountability are everything, Melendez brings a steady hand and a clear sense of purpose. His track record speaks not just to what he knows, but to how he leads and why teams trust him to keep their aircraft, and their operations, in top shape.
