Bioseco specialises in advanced bird detection and monitoring solutions. It has transformed Airports Wildlife Hazard Management to the next level through its unique stereo vision approach and reliance on peer-reviewed technology. The discreet and easy-to-install system quickly identifies bird presence and determines size, enabling airport authorities to avoid bird strikes.

It sets a new standard for transparency and reliability by openly sharing its algorithm and research through peer-reviewed papers. Trusted by wildlife control units and airports worldwide, it reduces downtime and prevents aeroplane damage.

The system’s performance has been thoroughly assessed using fixed-wing drones and external experts equipped with laser rangefinders. By comparing both datasets, the system’s accuracy has been tested up to 700 meters. The outcomes are impressive, demonstrating exceptional localisation efficiency and detection range. Valuable insights about bird activity patterns, such as timestamps, locations, distances, and height estimations, are meticulously recorded and stored for comprehensive analysis which is supported by 4k high-quality video of the event.

“Our main goal is to provide a second pair of eyes to wildlife control units, enabling them to monitor and identify potential threats on airport runways. The airport fauna monitoring system operates during daylight hours, continuously measuring and analysing bird activity,” says Dawid Gradolewski, CTO of Bioseco.

The system has achieved remarkable success at Gdansk Airport, where the prototype was installed. Its low height, stable construction, and breakable stands are designed to meet all the requirements for installation in close proximity of the runways. This integrated solution, strategically positioned at take-off and landing areas, ensures efficient data collection and analysis.

Long-term analysis proves the system helps identify bird activity hotspots on runways. It facilitates the implementation of targeted preventive measures by analysing historical data and identifying patterns in bird behaviour. Short-term analyses provide real-time threat assessments, indicating the level of risk posed by the bird in particular areas. This critical information empowers wildlife control units to swiftly activate appropriate deterrence measures. To validate the measurements and identify bird species, knowledgeable ornithologists can provide their expertise on a system records allowing more detailed analysis of the birds’ behaviour.

The battery-operated, easy-to-install deterrent system compliments the detection capabilities of the airport fauna monitoring system. It offers safe methods for driving away birds.

The security service at Gdansk Airport greatly benefits from a real-time monitoring application installed on tablets, which helps personnel make informed decisions. If larger birds or flock of small birds are spotted by the system the information supported by the image and localization data is immediately sent to the online application.

The customisable and cost-effective system is tailored to meet the specific requirements of different airports. The development process is grounded in a user-driven design methodology, ensuring that the needs and preferences of airport authorities are carefully considered. The system undergoes rigorous external validation based on scientific approaches, allowing for statistical analysis of detection rates, range, and overall efficiency. This validation underscores the reliability and accuracy of the system in enhancing airport safety.

Bioseco also caters to the wind energy sector by reducing the collision risk of birds with wind turbines’ blades. It offers mitigation measures such as strobe and sound deterrents and can activate turbine stops if birds continue to approach. It has experienced significant growth in the past two years, with a strong presence in Spain, France, Germany, Poland, and Belgium.

The introduction of the innovative wildlife monitoring system has strengthened safety measures at airports by effectively minimising the risks associated with bird activity on runways. Bioseco empowers airport authorities to make well-informed decisions, proactively manage wildlife hazards, and ensure uninterrupted flight operations by seamlessly integrating advanced technologies.
