“When we started Infiniti Electro-Optics we realized that the demand for specialty optics and custom-built camera systems was going to increase compared to off-the-shelf solutions. With the advent of AI, cameras are no longer just sensors for operators to look at, but data-gathering optical sensors vital for navigation, threat detection, targeting, and mitigation”, says Tim Troxel, VP of Sales, Infiniti Electro-Optics.
This realization drove Infiniti Electro-Optics to work with cutting-edge technologies like MWIR & LWIR thermal infrared imaging, ZLID laser illumination, and SWIR imaging to create electro-optic cameras that align with the mission-specific needs of their clients. Producing these solutions is a difficult feat given that every custom system represents a unique challenge in terms of design and manufacturing.
While most of its competitors focus on creating off-the-shelf products with arbitrary combinations, Infiniti’s modular solutions allow it to address the requirements of smaller programs and numerous military, MOD, marine, and critical infrastructure projects. These systems have been adopted by more than half of the top ten U.S. defense contractors. Most importantly, their price is comparative to off-the-shelf solutions.
“We are technology-agnostic; we’re not restricted to one particular technology to develop our custom solutions”, adds Troxel. “We combine various cutting-edge technologies including imagers in the visible, SWIR and thermal wavelengths, lasers for illumination, range finding, and target designation, in addition to AI and weapons-grade pan/tilt positioners to ensure optimum outcomes for our clients”.
Infiniti Electro-Optics believes that the defense industry is shifting from manned to unmanned, as unmanned systems or micro UAVs (0.1×0.1 meter) are becoming common on the battlefield. It is impossible for traditional systems to detect and defeat these autonomous threats that include loitering munitions and suicide drones. Infiniti’s EO/IR solution with team SAIC was recently short-listed and selected by the JCO (Joint Counter-Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office) for a counter-UAV demonstration in Yuma Arizona. Team SAIC’s was one of 3 teams to receive a performance distinction with the Infiniti EO/IR solution obtaining the longest range detection compared to all imaging competitors tested.
