THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING
Jeffrey Janicik, President and CEOSince its inception, Innoflight, a non-traditional defense contractor (NDC), has been at the forefront of driving innovation in the space industry by pushing the boundaries of technology to meet evolving demands.
With a steadfast commitment to security, it offers a proprietary line of cyber hardened avionics that not only unlock unprecedented functionality, but provide robust protection against the ever-evolving cyberthreats targeting satellites and space vehicles.

At the heart of Innoflight’s offerings lies a unique integration of communication, processing, and cybersecurity capabilities within a low size, weight, and power (SWaP) framework. These avionics solutions comply with stringent national defense standards and maximize the resilience of space systems.
“We are on a mission to be a powerful enabler for space systems and pave the way for successful missions by supplying a secure line of high performance advanced electronics,” says Jeffrey Janicik, president and CEO of Innoflight.
The Trifecta of Spacecraft Avionics
Innoflight’s offerings are supported by its highly experienced team that qualifies commercial off-the-shelf parts for mechanical, thermal, electromagnetic, and radiation requirements for use in its products.

It has three distinct offerings—software-defined radios, computers, and cybersecurity. These solutions are designed and built within a low SWaP avionics framework, tailored for deployment in proliferated low earth orbit (pLEO) networking, data routing and sensor payloads on space vehicles. Innoflight’s solutions cover the full scope of these payloads, including the data transfer, sensor interface, edge processing capabilities, and power electronics.
The software-defined radios (SDR) are robust communication devices featuring advanced components that enable real-time control over parameters like frequency, power, and waveform. This flexibility empowers satellite operators to adapt and optimize their communication systems on the fly, ensuring efficient and reliable data transmission and reception.
Complementing the SDRs are Innoflight’s high-performance computers that provide substantial processing power and networking capabilities. Equipped with mass storage capacity, these computers facilitate data processing with low latency, enabling a wider program and function range.
Cybersecurity and encryption tie together Innoflight’s holistic offerings. Its comprehensive security suite, CyberDog™, provides multi-layered security measures that go beyond encryption. Along with cryptographic implementations in advanced processing units, CyberDog™ safeguards communication links between satellites in space, and those transmitting data to the ground.
The security suite seamlessly integrates with third-party cybersecurity solutions, allowing for specialization in data layer protection or network intrusion detection/protection systems (NIDS/NIPS). It can be easily integrated with virtualized or containerized environments. This comprehensive cybersecurity solution is available for all Innoflight and third-party avionics.
Innoflight’s solutions help clients establish secure space-to-space and space-to-ground communications, enabling spacecraft systems to seamlessly fulfill their missions. The company draws upon its extensive hardware implementation expertise to facilitate the integration of user-defined applications, ensuring clients can optimize their operations.

Powering a New Era in Spacecraft Technology
Innoflight’s reputation for pioneering innovative avionics solutions has its foundation in Janicik’s vision for the company, born of his groundbreaking research in satellite communications.
He played a pivotal role on a research team that achieved a critical milestone for the space industry—establishing the world’s first end-to-end TCP/IP link to a satellite in the early 2000s. This accomplishment revolutionized spacecraft communication, opening up new possibilities for efficient and seamless data transfer.
Inspired, Janicik gathered a team of experts, many of whom had contributed to the groundbreaking research project. He led Innoflight to developing modern and miniaturized spacecraft radio and encryption solutions further enabling these networked-based links inclusive of breaking through to the esteemed level of national defense security. Innoflight became an epicenter of innovation, leveraging the staff’s collective expertise to drive technological advancements and shape the future of the space industry.
In 2010, Innoflight took another leap forward by spearheading a collaborative program with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The objective was to achieve full on-orbit programmability of computers within space systems while aligning with the industry’s stringent requirements.
The key facets of Innoflight’s solutions—communications, processing, and security—underpin its success and have enabled it to attract a vast and loyal customer base, including the U.S. government including NASA, major aerospace defense prime contractors, and commercial space developers. It is paving the way toward greater spacecraft capabilities, empowering public and private stakeholders to take on new endeavors.
“Our rich knowledge in the field and passion for technology innovation has positioned us at the forefront of understanding, exploring, and implementing superior solutions for space systems,” says Janicik.
Accelerating Timelines and Addressing Cyberthreats
Throughout its journey, Innoflight has remained firmly rooted in its dedication to national security in space. It actively seeks out new team members who share the same values. Ensuring job satisfaction and fulfillment is a top priority that involves cultivating an environment where employees thrive.
Fueling its achievements is an unwavering commitment to its people and fostering a dynamic environment that encourages collaboration and ingenuity. Its management team remains attuned to the pulse of the organization through regular informational gathering and surveys, as well as a vibrant culture club that convenes every month.
Central to Innoflight’s philosophy is an unwavering commitment to openness and exploration, never rejecting an idea outright. It draws inspiration from the computer technology space, the internet, and cellular industries and uses its extensive electronics expertise to take advantage of emerging trends and technologies. An expansive user base, intense competition, and continuous product advancements in these industries provide a wellspring of knowledge that translates into valuable offerings for spacecraft systems and customers.
As a part of its growth trajectory, Innoflight is preparing to move into a new facility in San Diego, California. This facility will bolster its office space and prototyping/production laboratory capabilities, allowing it to take on larger-scale supply contracts.
Innoflight’s contributions to the space industry enable a broad spectrum of applications, and its impact is increasingly evident in the initiatives undertaken by space forces and commercial entities today. It continues to redefine the possibilities of space systems through rigorous innovation and is a steadfast partner for those seeking to secure their space technology while enhancing efficiency.
