An aircraft’s superiority is measured not just by the velocity or the altitude it can reach but the precision and reliability of its components.

Among these determinants, aircraft insulation holds significant importance. Manufacturers continuously strive to advance material science and engineering expertise, seeking ways to enhance their aircraft’s resilience in navigating the harshest environments. However, meeting the exacting requirements calls for a partner capable of delivering a full spectrum of insulation services, from design to testing.

A tall order, but not for an industry veteran such as TIGHITCO.

It has firmly established itself as a leader in the domain by providing superior aerospace composites, advanced insulation products, and comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.
TIGHITCO’s success lies in its blend of expertise and innovation underpinned by a holistic approach and deepseated experience in the MRO space. This complete lifecycle support in navigating the intricate journey from an initial concept to a high-performance product empowers it to materialize state-of-the-art insulation products.

Its proficiency is reflected in the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of engineered insulation products, from encapsulated metal and sewn materials to molded insulation, for the most demanding heat shield, insulation, and fire protection requirements. Its product versatility and testing competence enable it to offer customized solutions that resonate with the precise needs of defense and commercial aerospace clients.

“Our craftsmanship, complemented by certifications in Nadcap, ISO 9001:2015, and AS9100D, ensures the highest quality standards demanded by the aerospace industry,” says Mark Withrow, president and CEO of TIGHITCO.

Delivering High-Performance Solutions with Insulation Products Group

TIGHITCO’s Insulation Products Group (IPG) offers a complete solution for insulation designs while adhering to the highest performance and safety standards.

“IPG rests on the pillars of quality control and customer service, along with engineering and production, and expertly delivers reliable products that meet the insulation needs of aerospace and commercial customers,” says Craig Zysk, group vice president of sales and business development, TIGHITCO.

By leveraging its vast material library, IPG collaborates with clients to identify thermal solutions that align with specific thickness, weight, and environmental criteria. It takes a cross-functional design approach, working with teams in its manufacturing facilities to deliver a product that optimizes performance, manufacturability, and quality.

IPG is renowned for its metal foil insulation blankets, the foundation of its offerings. These blankets are widely preferred for numerous applications, particularly for protection against high operating temperatures. They offer many benefits, such as thermal and fire resistance, with the ability to withstand continuous use temperature (CUT) up to 1200F (for stainless) or 1600F (for Inconel), and even direct flame exposure. Notably cost-effective, the product’s durable construction ensures long-term service and suitability for high-vibration areas.

Along with its cutting-edge products, TIGHITCO has introduced enhancements to its operations in line with the industry’s shifting requirements. This includes the integration of part modeling through CATIA V-5—3D CAD design software by Dassault Systèmes—to facilitate inhouse tool design and production. It has also incorporated coordinate measuring machine capabilities and offers design assistance using computational fluid dynamics. These enhancements are strengthened by an extensive assortment of manufacturing cells, collectively empowering TIGHITCO to efficiently support its diverse product range.

Swift Delivery through Streamlined Program Management

At the heart of TIGHITCO’s all-encompassing services is a comprehensive program management process that orchestrates a seamless customer experience. From quotes to program planning, production verification, and standard production commencement, its well-structured approach ensures consistent project progressions. The process streamlines production and enhances transparency and predictability, reducing uncertainties and saving valuable time. As a result, customers can better align their strategies with the production timeline.

Dedicated program managers go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. They tailor solutions to align with customer needs and avoid unnecessary costs as the development moves to full-scale production. An agile and flexible approach enables its swift product delivery to the market.

Global Footprint with a Local Impact

TIGHITCO’s centers of excellence are distinguished by worldclass manufacturing capabilities. Of the 5 sites, two of them are located in Aerospace Alley, and have become hotspots for international collaboration. These strategically positioned centers invite international partners that contribute to the burgeoning aerospace sector in the state, facilitating growth while fostering brand recognition.

In their state-of-the-art facility in San Luis Potosi, and Chihuahua, Mexico, the company produces high-quality components with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and the highest quality standards. A vital IPG resource, it manufactures aluminum sheet metal parts, including hydroformed components, light-machined plates, and extrusions. Offering chemical and painting processes compliant with the highest OEM and military standards, the facility is a testament to lowcost manufacturing. With facilities located strategically across the globe, TIGHITCO provides local solutions with a global reach, catering to a wide range of customer needs.

Putting Clients First with Proactive Risk Sharing

Beyond its product offerings, TIGHITCO is distinguished by its customer-centric ethos. It places significant emphasis on forming close partnerships and synchronizing its services with client requirements throughout the production lifecycle.

“Our customer service approach is two-pronged; we either work from blueprints provided by the customer for thermal protection solutions or partner with them to create a design specific to their needs,” says Withrow.

TIGHITCO’s readiness to share risks during unprecedented market volatility further signifies its commitment to client success. Procuring materials amid supply chain restrictions is one example.

The firm has shown the capability to swiftly adjust to industry hurdles, particularly supply constraints, by reassessing and sourcing materials on a global level. This has resulted in collaborations with raw material manufacturers worldwide, diversifying its supply chain and alleviating the impacts of these challenges.

One customer success story perfectly exemplifies this capability. Confronted with regulatory and supply chain constraints, the customer was at risk of delaying the delivery of a high-value engine. This could have led to substantial financial repercussions and a potential drop in their stock price. At their request for assistance, TIGHITCO successfully procured the necessary materials, averting delivery delays and ensuring customer satisfaction. These delivery misses would have led to a significant materially financial impact within our customers business which would not have been acceptable. This intervention earned it significant trust and recognition, making it the customer’s preferred partner for handling challenging issues.

Continual Innovation toward Strategic Growth

Started by a modest team of 13 employees, TIGHITCO has grown to over 1800 highly trained professionals, demonstrating a CAGR exceeding the industry average by 5 times. This growth is attributed to its stellar team of seasoned industry professionals who apply extensive domain knowledge and experience to innovate the right insulation solutions for clients.

As it looks forward, TIGHITCO is on a path to greater heights, supported by consistent growth. Over the next 5 years, it anticipates a doubling of its current revenue and aspires to increase operational capacity through capital investment in industrial assets like press machines, without physical expansion. Its growth strategy emphasizes three core areas – potential acquisitions, organic growth with existing suppliers, and the capture of new customers. The company is also exploring global sourcing options in response to current supply chain constraints in the industrial insulation sector, demonstrating its ability to adapt and innovate and retain its reputation as a reliable ally in the field.
