Supporting its engineering expertise is its fully in-house integrated manufacturing model in which rotary forging, metal spinning, flow forming, machining, engineering and quality assurance are all maintained on site. For the wheel market, rotary forging and metal spinning are particularly important, enabling the team to maintain full control of every process until products are shipped to clients.

When a produced part is shipped for subcontracted operations, quality oversight and schedule control become more difficult. AST avoids reliance on external subcontractors and maintains direct control over quality, process consistency and production schedules. The modular tooling concept originated more than 25 years ago to help U.S.-based smaller wheel companies overcome the high costs associated with custom tooling.
"Our true value lies in guiding customers to minimize costs, so they can increase profit margins,” says Shum.
AST has built an extensive library of tooling components that provides both flexibility and efficiency, driving smarter engineering decisions. The accumulated tooling base enables it to offer more competitive quotations than manufacturers starting from scratch for each project.
Tooling is developed around customer-supplied designs. Understanding how metals respond to forming processes, machining operations and real-world operating conditions, it helps customers optimize designs before production, identifying opportunities to reduce material usage and improve manufacturability.
The modular approach reuses components from existing tooling libraries across projects, reducing the amount of new tooling required, which lowers costs for customers. The modular foundation also supports scalable product portfolios. Clients can introduce additional offsets, wider wheel configurations, new SKUs and expanded vehicle applications without requiring entirely new tooling programs. Product expansion becomes faster and more cost-effective.
