Joe Burrows, an esteemed professional in the aviation fuel industry, currently holds the position of Director of Fuel Operations at Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV). Before assuming his current role, Burrows was the Manager of Fuel Supply and Trading at Southwest Airlines from May 2022 to September 2024. During this tenure, he was pivotal in securing the airline’s jet fuel procurement and logistics strategy. Burrows oversaw a team dedicated to sourcing and delivering fuel, focusing on safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Under his leadership, Southwest Airlines emerged as one of the largest importers of jet fuel into the United States West Coast market. His team collaborated directly with refiners, transport providers and storage facilities to maintain a robust and resilient fuel supply chain.

Burrows’ contributions to Southwest Airlines’ fuel operations also encompass his tenure as fuel operations regional manager, during which he managed vendor performance at key airport locations along the Eastern Seaboard and Gulf Coast. His jurisdiction encompassed major hubs such as Baltimore (BWI), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA) and Denver (DIA). As chair and vice-chair for numerous airline consortia, he negotiated infrastructure projects, fuel system leases and enhancements to vendor performance. His leadership was integral to executing critical infrastructure developments, including new fuel tank constructions, hydrant line relocations and fire suppression system enhancements.
