But there are other developments already happening that will expand the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into emerging areas. Here are three drone trends for 2020:

Using drones as a way to deliver eCommerce packages, food, or medical supplies will see new heights this year. The Federal Aviation Administration permitted certain companies to test drones BVLOS late last year. Many projects served as test stages for drone delivery, and this new method of delivery may supplement sources of revenue to companies in this emerging market.

5G Connection

5G network promises to deliver ten times the download speeds of current wireless networks while improving bandwidth and reducing latency, making it useful for a variety of applications outside of the smartphone space. Many telcos are experimenting with new ways to use 5G in healthcare, robotics, emergency first responders, the IoT, and self-driving cars. Verizon is working on a fleet management platform for drones, utilizing 5G as a way to get drones to fly further and to more destinations. With 5G networks expected to increase in implementation and coverage, it highly probable that other companies will experiment with 5G as a communication vessel for drone delivery and emerging technology.

In the field of logistics, the use of drones is already growing, with large e-commerce giants using the devices to move and ship packages in warehouses. Shipping giants are also teaming up with drone manufacturers to facilitate terminal operations to use drones to improve freight inspections at harbor terminals.

The use of drones will also become popular in brick and mortar retail organizations. It will send data off-device to improve inventory analysis for the company's end users. And help collect real-time data faster and with greater accuracy and at a lower cost assisting brands in competing for stockouts, the share of shelf, and other shelf conditions impacting revenue.
