Mr Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia said, “This airshow is a testament to Indonesia's commitment to leading the way in sustainable aviation and defence advancements. As we aim to promote Indonesia's role as a global leader in the aviation industry and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), we are bringing together global experts to share insights and collaborate on shaping the future of these critical sectors.”
The speakers will lead discussions across four dedicated forums, focusing on Indonesia's aviation potential and its evolving role in global defence. Each session will delve into various aspects of Indonesia's aviation sector, highlighting its contributions to the global aviation landscape and fostering partnerships for sustainable and innovative growth.
Further details for each session are as follows:
1. 1st session: Special Dialogue Program (18 September 2024 - 14:00-15:15 UTC+8) 1. Topic: Global and Regional Collaboration Potential on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Supply. In this session, the forum will delve into the critical role of SAF in decarbonizing the aviation industry. With the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) targeting net-zero aviation emissions by 2050, SAF is projected to reduce aviation CO2 emissions by 65%, or 14 gigatons, by 2050. However, the supply of SAF remains a significant challenge, despite the growing demand.
2. 2nd session: Special Dialogue Program (18 September 2024 - 15:30-16:45 UTC+8) 1. Topic: Guardians of the Sky: Exploring Indonesia's Advancements in Air Defense Industry is the focus of the second dialogue, which will highlight Indonesia's efforts to modernise its air defence capabilities. The discussion will cover the procurement of advanced aircraft, the development of the Indonesian Archipelagic Air Defense System (IAADS), and the challenges Indonesia faces in maintaining its competitiveness in the global defence industry.
3. 3rd session: Special Dialogue Program (19 September 2024 - 10:00-11:15 UTC+8) 1. Topic: Soaring High: Indonesia’s Ascend to Becoming a Global Leading Aviation Market, will examine the growth trajectory of Indonesia's aviation sector. With the goal of becoming the world's fourth-largest air travel market by 2037, the session will explore how the nation’s vast geography necessitates air travel and how the industry is poised to recover and thrive post-pandemic.
4. 4th session: Special Talk Show Program (19 September 2024 - 14:00-15:15 UTC+8) 1. Topic: Fueling the Future: Harnessing Indonesia’s Natural Resource Endowment for Global SAF Feedstock, will explore Indonesia’s potential as a leader in SAF feedstock production. Given its status as the world's leading palm oil producer, Indonesia has the capacity to generate 36.8 billion litres of SAF. The session will address the global perception challenges surrounding palm oil and discuss strategies for enhancing its acceptance as a sustainable feedstock.
The Bali International Airshow 2024 is set to showcase Indonesia’s growing influence in the global aerospace and defence sectors. By addressing critical issues such as sustainable aviation, air defence advancements, and the future of air travel, the event will provide a unique platform for valuable insights and collaborations among industry leaders.
