Washington-based Kymeta began shipping electronically steered flat-panel antennas in 2017. During the Satellite 2020 conference in March, the company unveiled its next-generation Kymeta u8 flat panel antenna.
FREMONT, CA: Satellite communications company Kymeta Corporation announced the acquisition of Lepton Global Solutions, a Virginia-based satellite services specialist. As per the agreed terms for the deal, Lepton will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kymeta. The acquisition will help Kymeta deepen its expertise offering communications services to U.S. government agencies that have expressed interest in purchasing an entire connectivity solution rather than hardware alone.
“Having a turnkey satellite service provider like Lepton accelerates Kymeta’s ability to successfully penetrate U.S. military and government customers in partnership with a well-established brand, deep channel experience, and network support for those verticals. The combination of Kymeta’s revolutionary hardware, together with Lepton’s service offerings, will be a winning combination that will be hard to beat. We are excited to bring Rob Weitendorf, Isabel LeBoutillier, and their team into the Kymeta family and thus expand and accelerate our ability to go to market,” said Walter Berger, President and COO of Kymeta.

Washington based Kymeta began shipping electronically steered flat-panel antennas in 2017. During the Satellite 2020 conference in March, the company unveiled its next-generation Kymeta u8 flat panel antenna. It announced Kymeta Connect, a hybrid satellite-cellular connectivity service with subscriptions starting at USD 999, including hardware.
Berger stated that current customers and prospective ones would be able to buy Kymeta hardware alone or buy subscriptions covering hardware and managed services. Beta testing of Kymeta u8 is scheduled to begin this month, and the product is slated for commercial release in the fourth quarter of 2020. The acquisition of Lepton will help Kymeta improve its ability to offer managed services and run network operations centers.
“Government and commercial sectors need the most reliable and seamless connectivity to successfully fulfil their daily missions. This new venture will enable our customers to leverage the expertise of Lepton and Kymeta to receive more customised services and solutions while maintaining Lepton’s legacy of providing the best-of-breed solutions always with a focus on the customer’s mission,” said Rob Weitendorf, the Managing Partner at Lepton. Kymeta is committed to ensuring that the acquisition does not cause any inconvenience to its customers. Post-acquisition, Lepton will continue to provide customer service and manage networks.
