Founded in 1999, Radiance Technologies has come a long way from its humble beginnings. This employee-owned company has grown into a powerhouse of innovation with nearly 1,000 employees spread across ten offices in eight states. What propelled its growth was a singular vision shared by its four founders—to solve the nation’s greatest challenges through advanced research and development.

Its initial contract with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) set the wheels in motion for decades of growth and success. Radiance Technologies’ comprehensive support for SMDC’s small satellite and high-altitude missions has been instrumental in advancing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR), and Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3) applications.

One of the company’s standout achievements is the design, development, and operation of the SMDC’s Payload Demonstration Lab (PDL) at Redstone Arsenal. This state-of-the-art facility provides full-spectrum ground operations, including mission planning; telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C); and data analysis for SMDC’s small satellites. The PDL, alongside high-fidelity Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) laboratories, exemplifies its commitment to PNT Resiliency and advanced space applications. SMDC’s PNT Resiliency project has led to lightweight, resilient PNT solutions that reduce GPS dependence, ensuring precision in contested environments.

“Over the years, we have expanded our expertise and attracted new clients, including the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), U.S. Space Force (USSF)/Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Development Agency (SDA), Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) and National Reconnaissance Office (NRO),” says Jonathan Bishop, Vice President, Space Group at Radiance Technologies.

The company is operationalizing its NASIC Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) enabled Automatic Target Recognition processing suite, providing cutting-edge Missile Warning/Missile Tracking (MW/MT) capabilities against global kinetic threats, including ballistic and hypersonic missiles, which has increased target identification tenfold to significantly enhance NASIC’s intelligence production. Its algorithms have Darien Hammett, Executive Vice President, Defense Sector Jonathan Bishop, Vice President, Space Group been pivotal for the MDA Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), USSF/SSC Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) Sensor Specific Processing (SSP) application and the SDA Tranche 2 Tracking (T2TRK) Layer program. Winning two NRO Director’s Innovation Initiatives (DIIs) to develop advanced laser technologies underscores its role as a trailblazer in future space capabilities.

“We leverage our domain expertise and innovative spirit through ongoing collaboration with the DoD, IC, commercial space markets and academia to continue leading in space mission and platform development,” says Darien Hammett, Executive Vice President, Defense Sector at Radiance Technologies.

The company leverages unrestricted development practices and Internal Research & Development (IRAD) to empower its DoD and IC customers with cutting-edge space capabilities. A prime example is the development of a low-cost, advanced edge computing payload that integrates radiation-tolerant commercial mass processing with regenerative software, using AI/ML to deliver unprecedented space capabilities.

Examples of Radiance Technologies’ advanced technology solutions include integrated PNT solutions from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to Deep Space, Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) missile detection and tracking algorithms and edge mass-processing payloads for rapid mission design, development, integration, and deployment.

As the demand for rapid, innovative and cost-effective space solutions grows, Radiance is poised to deliver the advanced technologies necessary for national defense and beyond. Radiance Technologies is keeping pace with the future of space innovation while ensuring that the nation remains at the space capability forefront.
